We were honored to introduce you to Yiddishland’s very special guests from NYC – cast members of the exceedingly popular off-Broadway production of “Fiddler on the Roof” in Yiddish, directed by Joel Grey. Performers Lisa Fishman and Yael Chanukov shared a few songs and stories from behind the scenes of that critically acclaimed production. We got a taste of “Fidler afn dakh” here in San Diego! 

We enjoyed a Simche celebrating the freilach Festival of Light. Our special performers, Eva Beim and Bracha Crayk, brought unique interpretations of our beloved Chanukkah songs in Hebrew, Yiddish, English and Ladino. It was a heimish evening filled with music, humor, and Chanukkah rituals.

YAAANA’s 5th Anniversary, Yiddishland California’s First Anniversary, and our Annual Fundraiser Celebration, featuring musical stars of the Yiddish stage! Yale Strom, Elizabeth Schwartz, and Lisa Fishman performed a concert titled No End to Yiddishland!

The special inaugural event of Yiddishland California with a klezmer concert by Elizabeth Schwartz, Yale Strom, and Gunnar Biggs. We had a ribbon cutting (a building bris, if you will) and hung a mezuzah (a threshold teffilin, as it were).

As part of our annual fundraiser, and YAAANA’s fourth-anniversary celebrations, we organized a screening (subtitled in English) of YAAANA’s contemporary Yiddish production, Korone un der nayer normal (Corona and the New ‘Normal’), inspired by Leah K. Hoffman’s 1930 play Kraft (Power).
