This week, we have some new exciting news! We will now be offering Yiddish for Beginners I taught by our brand new teacher Arturo Kerbel from Mexico City, now living in London. We keep updating our website over the summer, so you will see an updated translation services section as well as a volunteering and internship section. In the next few weeks we will be offering the following events and courses:
-Featured Class: Yiddish for Beginners I with Arturo Kerbel – This course helps build Jewish identity through learning how to read and write in Yiddish. Join now to enjoy learning through music, poetry, and more! – starting on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. PT (3 p.m. CT, 4 p.m. ET, 9 p.m. GMT) ending on September 8, 2022. Sessions are 60 min long.

Finally, our August Art Walk will feature live music by Manzanita Blues rescheduled from last month’s Art Walk. More information here
We are still offering memberships for the academic year (from October 1 to May 31, 2023). Memberships are available remotely and in person. We are also welcoming donations. Donations to our non-profit organization are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Yiddish for Beginners I with Arturo Kerbel

The alef beys and your first Yiddish words are building blocks of Jewish identity, culture, and heritage. Join us and learn how to read and write in Yiddish. You will master some basic words and useful phrases. Music and poetry will be used to enrich the experience.
When: Thursdays, starting on Thursday, August 4, 2022, ending on September 8, 2022; 1 p.m. PT (3 p.m. CT, 4 p.m. ET, 9
p.m. GMT) – 2 p.m. PT
Where: Online via Zoom
Cost: $25 per session or 6 sessions for $120

Call for Photography Volunteers

Are you looking to accomplish some volunteer hours? Skilled with a camera? We are in need of some photography assistance at our Yiddishland location in La Jolla, California. Volunteer work would include taking photos of our collection of books and artwork. Volunteers get unlimited access to Yiddishland events and a 10% discount on books and artworks.

Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

Call For Volunteers: We are looking for interns and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Our interns and volunteers receive free access to all Yiddishland events and classes as well as to Yiddishland’s event archives. Internships can be taken for college credit. NEW! Housing for interns from out of San Diego is now available also for long term interns.

Updates to Our Translation Services

Yiddishland California offers Yiddish-English and English Yiddish translation services. If you are willing to part with the original document (in order to help us grow our museum collection) we will offer a discounted rate on these services.
We also offer translations from and into Hebrew, Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, and Judeo-Spanish (Ladino).
