Architecture Intern
Dear Applicant,
The Yiddish Arts and Academic Association of North America (YAAANA) and its project called Yiddishland California, based in San Diego, California, are looking for an Architecture Intern. The mission of YAAANA and Yiddishland California is to promote Yiddish language and culture through academic and artistic events. We are currently seeking an organized, energetic, and diligent individual to assist us in the early stages of planning a new living museum dedicated to the Yiddish language and culture. The intern will be responsible for assisting in designing a flyover plan for this project. No knowledge of the Yiddish language is required. Familiarity with Jewish culture is a plus. Our interns receive free access to all YAAANA events and classes, as well as access to the YAAANA archives.
Internships are unpaid, but can be taken for college credit. This internship is remote.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in developing visual concepts and renderings (e.g., Photoshop) for the proposed Yiddishland museum and cultural spaces.
- Conduct research on potential properties, including location, accessibility, and suitability for the museum site.
- Research zoning, business, and regulatory requirements, and compile findings to support planning and decision-making.
- Support outreach and communication efforts with organizations or foundations related to project development.
Work Experience & Skills
- Completion of relevant architecture courses.
- Exceptional animation skills.
- Interest in helping create a new civic entity.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong initiative and creativity.
Learning Objectives
- Interns will learn methods and processes related to zoning and business research.
- Interns will further their knowledge of animation and animation software.
- Interns will gain a deeper understanding of Jewish culture.
Learning Outcomes
- Interns will gain proficiency with all aspects of architectural research.
- Interns will gain further proficiency in animation-related activities and objects.
Estimated Duration
Full-time: preferably 8, minimum 6 week engagement with a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week.
Part-time: preferably 16, minimum 12 week engagement with a minimum commitment of 21 hours per week.
OPT: 21 hours per week, 270 hours total.
Longer internships with a less demanding time commitment are available upon request.
If an intern wishes to receive academic credit, it is their responsibility to confirm eligibility and any approval requirements with their academic institution prior to starting the internship.
