Requirements for Interns on OPT

Designated School Official (DSO): At the start of your internship, you must provide the name and contact information of your Designated School Official (DSO). You are also required to give us two references either school advisor, professor, or employer.

Work Hours: To maintain your OPT, you must work a minimum commitment of 21 hours per week or more and have daily communication. You are required to track your documented hours and submit them to the shared drive daily, as well as all hours upon completion of your internship. You are also required to show your work to us and post it in the specific spots in our shared drive.

Communication: All interns are required to maintain communication with the assigned internship supervisor on a daily basis, providing a report that includes an update on the status of your tasks.  Consistent check-ins are essential for OPT. If we do not hear from you, we are required to contact your DSO advisor.

Absences: There are no vacation days for internships taken for OPT. For sick days, you must notify Jana in advance and provide a doctor’s note.

Release Letters: At the end of the internship, upon completion of all assigned projects and approval by the internship supervisor, coordinator and Yiddishland’s SEO, interns can receive a release letter, marking the official termination of their internship. The obtention of a release letter is subjected to providing a 14-day notice before the last day of the internship, as well as uploading all the resources, documents (including the registration of the working hours) and media that were generated during the internship as part of the assigned projects.  Release letters will be issued to interns who completed at least a 3-month internship, working a minimum of 21 hours per week. Sick days and other justified absences will not be considered for the final time count.
