Yiddish Art Classes for Children with Preet Srivastava

This class is aimed for children of all backgrounds, ages 5-10. The class will involve art making and interpretation, based on the rich cultural heritage represented at Yiddishland.

Yiddishland Art Club for Children 5-10 with Annie Macpherson

This art class is designed for children ages 5-10 at any level and of all backgrounds. The objective is to engage participants in the culture and heritage of Yiddishland through art.

Yiddish Art Classes for Children 

This class is aimed for children of all backgrounds, ages 5-10. The class will involve art making and interpretation, based on the rich cultural heritage represented at Yiddishland. Children will be introduced to Yiddish cultural concepts and biographies of Jewish artists. The objective of this course is developing creativity, critical thinking, and appreciation of the arts. No electronic devices are allowed in the classroom.

When: Wednesdays, April 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17 and 24.      12.45 – 1.45 p.m. Door opens at 12.30 p.m.

Instructor: Preet Srivastava

Hailing from NYC, Preet Srivastava is a painter whose art has been featured in galleries throughout the US, Jamaica and India. She attended the University of Redlands and the Academy of Art University (SF). She owned and operated Galoka Gallery (La Jolla, CA) and was a founding co-creator of the Governor’s Island Art Fair (NY). She was the featured artist in the documentary “Bombay to Brooklyn”, produced by Carol Ryavec. Preet has been teaching art classes for kids and adults for over 20 years.

Yiddishland Art Club for Children 5-10 

This art class is designed for children ages 5-10 at any level and of all backgrounds. The objective is to engage participants in the culture and heritage of Yiddishland through art.

Activities include:

  • Creating art inspired by Yiddish words, music, and stories
  • Exploring art as a form of communication across cultures
  • Finding ways to preserve Yiddish language and culture through art

Please note that phones and tablets will not be allowed in the classroom.

In this class you will use: Colored pencils, crayons, makers, mixed media, and beads.

Skills you will learn: Painting, drawing, sketching, basic jewelry making, and book making.

When: Mondays and Thursdays: Feb. 6, 9, 13, 16, 23, 27, March 2 and 6. 3:30-5:00 p.m. Door opens at 3:00 p.m.

Instructor: Annie Macpherson

Annie is a teaching artist, curriculum designer, children’s book writer, and illustrator. She has self-published two books: The Golden Fish – a true story about magic and dreams, and Zen Bunny – a guided meditation for children. Annie studied sumi-e Japanese brush painting for over 7 years and has been teaching art for over 12 years in San Diego and Maui. She also has a passion for organic growing, sustainable living, and developing intentional communities.
