Marketing and Data Analysis Internship

Dear Applicant,

Are you looking for a data analysis/marketing internship? Come and be part of a team that celebrates diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives in the field of marketing research and data science. The Yiddish Arts and Academic Association of North America (YAAANA) and its cultural center called Yiddishland California, both based in San Diego, California, are looking for marketing and data analyst interns. The mission of YAAANA and Yiddishland California is to promote Yiddish language and culture through academic and artistic events. Our interns receive free access to all YAAANA and Yiddishland California events and classes as well as to the YAAANA and Yiddishland California archives. Internships are unpaid, but college credit can be earned. We offer in-person and remote internships.

Position Overview:

Ideal candidates for this position have an interest in the marketing and data analysis fields, and a willingness to learn.

Essential Functions of the Role:

  1. Conduct market research and analyze competitor strategies.
  2. Support the development of marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  3. Help coordinate promotional events and activities.
  4. Monitor and report on the performance of marketing efforts.
  5. Collaborate with the creative team to design marketing materials.
  6. Assist in email marketing campaigns, database management, A/B testing and predictive analysis.
  7. Contribute to brainstorming sessions for new marketing ideas, based on previous marketing research and analysis.
  8. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
  9. Provide general administrative support to the marketing department as needed.
  10. Organize marketing materials.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Proven ability to prioritize and multitask
  2. Theoretical and practical experience doing descriptive statistical analysis, including the calculation of measures of central tendency and dispersion, frequency histograms, and basic data visualization.
  3. Basic experience with statistical hypothesis testing techniques and standard error calculation and interpretation in the context of an inferential analysis for normally and non-normally distributed data.
  4. Familiarity with Google Ads and its analytics dashboard. 
  5. Previous experience with non-profit organizations is a plus. 
  6. Creativity
  7. Excellent time management skills

 Learning Objectives

  1.  Interns will gain further experience and skills to perform a predictive statistical analysis on discrete and continuous data, by using existing models and techniques.
  2.  Interns will acquire relevant experience conducting Google Ads campaigns for non-profit organizations and online marketing and donation campaigns. 
  3.  Interns will expand their data visualization skills, allowing them to explain the results and outcomes of their analysis to a wide range of audiences, including the general public and key non-profit decision-makers, regardless of their previous technical knowledge.
  4.  Interns will gain experience in A/B testing, n-gram analysis for keyword research, and natural language processing (NLP) analysis techniques for marketing purposes.   
  5.  Interns will gain familiarity with secular Jewish culture and the Yiddish language.

Estimated Duration

  • Full-time: preferably 8 weeks, minimum 6 weeks,  engagement with a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • Part-time: preferably 16 weeks, minimum 12 weeks, engagement with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
  • Longer internships with a less demanding time commitment will be considered upon request. 
  • If an intern wishes to receive academic credit for the internship, it is their responsibility to check with their academic institution for approval prior to beginning the position. 
  • Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the  responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements  before they accept a position.
