Playwright/Actor/Dancer Yehuda Hyman’s new solo show, The Dancing Room is a theatre/dance performance weaving Jewish mysticism and memoir to illuminate the transcendent power of dance through a Jewish lens. The Dancing Room is directed by Obie-Award winning artist, Michael Leibluft. Yehuda weaves Hasidic dance steps his Polish father taught him, a tale about his teenage obsession with Nijinsky, and a corporeal body interpretation of text from the Zohar. In this 20 minute excerpt followed by a Q & A, Yehuda mixes memoir, humor and pathos in a search for levitation of the feet – and heart.
